The Moon Within Menstruation & Puberty Literature Study

This is a minimum 2-week (However, I suggest diving deeper using the books on the book list) literature guide that coincides with the novel The Moon Within by Aida Salazar.
This culture-rich coming-of-age story emphasizes a young female recognizing her changing body and trying to juggle family and friends and right from wrong.
The average age when a female starts puberty is 8-13. I recommend introducing around the age of 6-7 to prepare your child for the changes that may occur in her body, so there aren't any surprises, and she will know exactly what's going on and what to do.

This guide is 75 pages and is thoroughly planned for your lesson by lesson. However, it's also very loose, so one can do as they please with each activity. It is also secular in nature, in which our novel focuses on spiritual duality, a female's changing body, interest in boys, menstruation, etc. I have curated these pages to spotlight normalizing menstruation, getting parents involved with their child's changing body, and listing the shame and stigma around this topic. Not only does this guide focus on the female reproductive system it also speaks on Puerto Rican culture and ancestral history, as our protagonist in the novel is half Puerto Rican. It is jam-packed and full of resources for you and your child to come together, study, and share.
